VIP Reception - Saturday January 19, 2008

Gary and Sweet'n Low Chaiman Emeritus Marvin Eisenstadt enjoying the sunset view of the intracoastal from the 20th floor balcony of the Resort at Singer Island's Presidential Penthouse, the luxurious location of the 2008 VIP reception.  Later, Gary and Marvin are joined on the balcony by Jim McMahon, who enjoys a cocktail in addition to the sunset.

Gary, animated as always, in the middle of a story at the VIP reception.

The VIP reception was a welcome by The Gary Carter Foundation and JDRF to thank all of our Premier Sponsors.  For the 2009 VIP Welcome reception, Gary and Sandy Carter have volunteered their home to host the event.

Dinner Banquet - Sunday January 20, 2008

One of the most memorable auctions in our 22 year history of this event:  Chloe Textor, right, showing off the diamond ring she was just presented by Bob Simses, left, a long time JDRF supporter.  Chloe has been diagnosed with diabetes since she was five years old - and has been a wonderful spokesperson with JDRF since that time.  During the banquet Chloe was modeling the 1 carat diamond ring donated by Shamrock Jewelers that was to be auctioned during the dinner program.  Mr. Simses, after some spirited bidding, announced to the room that he would pay $3,000 for the ring if the others bidders would allow him to give it to Chloe.  The stunned silence that followed was broken by a huge ovation - and that moment led to the finest live auction for this event, raising a total of $25,700!!

Golf Tournament - Monday January 21, 2008

Left Picture, Marlins broadcaster and former Major Leaguer Tommy Hutton gets ready for golf with former New York Met Tim Tueffel.  Right Picture, Jim McMahon poses with Gary and Boston Celtic great, NBA Hall of Famer John Havlicek.

Left Picture, JDRF spokesperson Chloe Textor and Gary Carter Foundation spokesperson Franklin Ocean getting a picture with Gary just after the shotgun start.  Right Picture, Gary gets a photo with Kyle Bloemers and Matt Kearce, half of the winning foursome.  The fact that these two honest gentlemen were among the winners caused a little consternation since they are each married to one of Gary's daughters (Kyle with Kimmy, and Matt with Christy).  There was some talk of tournament officials disqualifying them but their victory was allowed to stand because of the unquestioned integrity of the other two golfers in their group, Ray Strickland and Trey Miller (not pictured).
